Sake Shaped by the Land and Culture of Kyushu

In the 16th century, when Portuguese ships brought sugar to Nagasaki, a new chapter in the history of sake brewing in Kyushu began.

Sugar eventually took root deeply in Kyushu's food culture, giving birth to the sweet soy sauce and adding depth and complexity to Kyushu cuisine, thus greatly transforming the region's food culture.

New types of sake and shochu have been created to bring out the umami flavor of sweet soy sauce.

Kyushu's rich natural environment, especially its many volcanic areas and water rich in minerals, provides the perfect environment for sake brewing.

The warm climate is ideal for growing crops, and sake has been brewed in a way that brings out the maximum flavor of the rice.

These natural conditions, combined with a food culture typified by sweet soy sauce, have led to the establishment of a style of sake unique to Kyushu.

Kyushu sake is not simply a drink made from rice and water; it is truly a product of terroir, born from the complex intertwining of the local climate and the lifestyle of the people.
